Graphic Design ...

Kosta ChairI have worked as a graphic designer 25 years and although there were nice projects along the way, a lot of it was pretty mundane run of the mill design work for a jobbing local printer. However, there have always been projects for private clients and little things I did on the side for my own pleasure and although I have stopped doing the former I will definitely do some more of the latter.

Here are a few projects from 2019, some of which will be used on the yearly Yulemasfest card, my version of the Christmas/Seasonal card.

Skybox Vertical by Rob Sweere
Rob Sweere's Skybox Vertical, 2016

During our holiday in the Netherlands we came across Rob's 2016 Skybox in the garden of Kloster Bentlage, Rheine in Germany. No doubt Rob did a better job when he designed it, but it seemed a nice thing to try in 3D (I'm pretty much a novice at this and probably always will be). It's not exact, of course, I do not have the dimensions and proportions, so it's my version of the thing. One is meant to climb and lean in it through a hole in the bottom and observe the heavens. There is also a horizontal version with the surprising name Skybox Horizontal.

Periodic Table of the Elements

Periodic Table
Made to commemorate 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table and the 150th anniversary of the table’s creation by Dmitry Mendeleev

Nothing special, but I thought it nice spending a little time going over the periodic table again since 2019 is the International Year of the Periodic Table and the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table. I also have good memories using the table at school and university. Please note that this periodic table has not been proof read by anyone, so please do not use it as a serious reference.

Karel Gilsinger Typeface

Karel Gilsinger Tyeface
Karel Gilsinger Typeface.

Karel Gilsinger was inspired by typefaces seen in the Netherlands (2019) especially the typeface used by fabrique.nl (Hans Leijdekkers, Alexia Boiteau and Robin Kemme) in the corporate ID for Insinger Gilissen (2017) seen in the Singer Museum in Laren, although I only used the 'g' as a reference. This typeface was created for the 2019 Yulemasfest Card.

Karel Dangle was just an experiment for a 2019 Yulemasfest card typeface, but it didn't work out. However it may have it's uses.
